About
My name is Sarakastic, although that isn’t what is on my birth certificate. I’m 24 years old & basically the coolest person you’ll ever meet. My humility is overwhelming. When I was twelve years old, I woke up and just didn’t feel good. By 4 o’clock that afternoon I was in the ER really not feeling good. (Wow this is going to be a happy story). Four years, and dozen of misdiagnosis’ later I was told I had fibromyalgia. My mom and I went on a quest to find relief, one that we are still on. There are so many wonderful places for support and medical information, and there will be some of that here. However, I could never find what I was really looking for in the fibromyalgia information. What I really wanted was a job, to be able to work. I wanted to know how to manage my disease & still make my life work. This blog is to help other people with fibromyalgia realize their dreams and find work that they can do without sacrificing their health.

Sara,
Ever think back about how you came to thinking of something? Well, my finding your website was kinda like that. You see, I was trying to find out what Mary Tyler Moore’s hat looked like because I wanted to try to find one for someone (inside joke, I’ll have to expound later), and I did a Yahoo search and saw this website.
Which is weird, because my wife, who is 31, has a similar story to yours. Actually, she was 14 when she remembers suddenly just not feeling right, and then starting at 19, she started having pain, and after her mid-twenties it got worse.
She was originally tested for MS, they found nothing. Then a neurologist decided to MRI her entire spine, and they diagnosed her with syringomyelia. Then, four years later, they do another MRI and say the syrinx is gone, and she may have peripheral neuropathy and fibromyalgia.
In reading your posts, it sounds like you and she share the same experiences. She has intense leg pains almost all the time, but never in the joints, has difficulty maintaining a routine schedule, can’t sleep well, finds it impossible to physically get up out of bed some days, often she says it hurts just to have a sheet lying across her legs.
She’s been treated by a neurologist for 10 years now, and by a pain specialist (wouldn’t recommend this. My experience is they are all quacks and too worried about addiction), and has been on all types of medication, and nothing other than good old fashioned opiates have helped. None of the newer synthetics or mood stabilizers or antidepressants are worth it in the long run.
Anyway, I work, she can’t (well, in the traditional sense). We have two kids, 6 and 18 months, and even though it is a struggle every day for both of us, she does great. Sometimes though I worry when I can’t be there. But she gets through it, and she takes off on the weekends and sleeps while I take over, and it isn’t easy, but the alternatives are worse.
Well, it was good to read your blogs. At the very least, I know now that she isn’t alone. And hopefully you know that as well.
Stumbled upon your blog and I would like to ask for your help.
My wife was diagnosed with fibromyalgia almost 2 years ago. She had been having trouble sleeping, she was sensitive to light and touch, and she was always tired.
I have now taken on a project to build an online community for people touched by fibromyalgia to come together, find each other and share their triumphs and challenges. The site (http://fibromyalgia.ning.com/) is free to register and use.
The site does not have a lot going on right now but I am asking bloggers to give the site a mention somewhere on the blog to help build awareness.
The site, “Fibromyalgia, You’re Not Alone” is patterned after another site, TuDiabetes.com, which was started by Manuel Hernandez.
I just found your blog today and it is very informative. I also live in Utah and would be very interested in “talking” with you regarding your trial and errors and sucesses and failures. If anybody is interested in contacting me they can e-mail me at keribeam @ gmail . com. Remove the spaces of course!
Hello Sarakastic!
I stumbled across your blog while looking up different things about fibro - I am so glad I did.
I am also 24 years old, I have fibro and CFS, and I too wear a tiara.
You sound like a fabulous chick, and you have an excellent sense of humor. You, like me, live up to the phrase “I have Fibromyalgia, It doesn’t have me.”
Mine started when I was around 10. My back and neck hurt so bad, they tested me for Juvenile RA, and put me in twice a week physical therapy sessions. The endometreosis hit around age 14. Always I struggled with no energy, chronic pain, trouble concentrating, sensitive skin, bouts of depression that came on with no warning and could last for an hour or a month, trouble sleeping or feeling as if I never had any sleep, just basically feeling bad - for no apparent reason, some days worse than others. It wasn’t until age 22 that I was diagnosed finally, after my mother’s own diagnosis. We have a wonderful doctor, who specializes in fibro and CFS.
It is just really difficult being 24 years old, and feeling like I am 95 some days…. and it is very hard to explain “fibro fog” or a flare up to someone who doesn’t understand. Luckily I am married to a wonderful man who knows me well enough to understand that I am not a complainer - and you don’t hear a peep out of me unless I am really feeling terrible or something is really hurting.
I will definitely be checking out your blog from now on - keep up the great work!
Sara, I’m one of the founders of a new website, called PeoplesMD. I’m writing because I really like your blog. You’re what I imagine a Health Hero to be: you write honestly from experience and offer insights that help others. Your posts are the kinds of resources we want to include on our site, especially as we’re building content during our beta phase. That’s why I just posted about your blog: http://www.peoplesmd.com/reviews/898
I’d love to send you an email about our site and get you involved, I think it could really help reach more fibromyalgia sufferers and help make a difference. I sure hope I hear from you.
Hi! Just wanted to let you know that I have fibromyalgia also. My symptoms started in my forties, though. My doctor is awesome. She tests my hormones regularly because I have a hormone imbalance which affects my fibro. I’m on a natural compounded hormone from the pharmacist. It is such a blessing for me. When I get low in progesterone, then I get depressed and the fibro gets worse, so the hormone really helps. I take calcium, magnesium citrate, flaxseed oil, two 5HTP capsules, St. John’s Wart, and melatonin at night and usually sleep well. Quality sleep helps me so much! And eating healthy…fresh fruit & veggies, lean protein, whey protein isolate powder, fiber, etc. I take a lot of vitamins, minerals and supplements (CoQ10, DIM, enzymes) Walking is great exercise. I’m doing so much better than I was a couple of years ago, and my pain has diminished considerably! I wish everyone who suffers from fibro could get relief!
Hey!
Found your blog from the dofollow blog list. How have you been doing with fibromyalgia? Have you tried the vitamins recommended to help combat it? Like Vitamin D, Super B Complex, Zinc, etc? There’s a video on youtube where a lady talks about how she has limited her pain and increased her overall flexibility and quality of life by taking them. If you can’t find it there, I’ve got a link to it from my site too.
My wife suffers from back pain and somewhat small case of fibromyalgia. She is going to be trying out the vitamins and see how it works.
Keep up the blogging.. I’ll check back in.
It is always encouraging to hear about other folks who were diagnosed at a young age… after countless appointments. I was 10 when my symptoms began. And now, at 23, I am unable to work because of the pain and fibro-fog. I am going to post about your blog on my blog in the next few days. Would you like to swap links?
