Relationships & Fibro

I’m in a little different boat since I got sick when I was quite young. I knew that fibromyalgia would effect any relationship that I entered into. I try to minimize the impact but still when you try to blend anyone else’s life with your own you’re going to have to deal with all their problems and they are going to have to deal with yours including fibro. So any long married fibro couples out there, how do you do it?

I’ve had two relatives, both women, who sufferred from Fibromyalgia. Both were abused in their marriages over the course of a long time. Then both married great men, and several years later both recovered.

All this time, of course, the medical community were unable to pinpoint the cause or a therapy.

If my aunts were any indication, it was their relationships that both caused and cured their illnesses.

I was just amazed that both women, suffering as they were from joint pain, we courageous enough to enter into other relationships.

However, both of their previous husbands were alcoholics, having nothing to do with the people they were underneath the booze.

Both men died early of cirrhosis as well. And, both men were of Russian descent.

    So, there is some hope.

My aunts did not display the reaction to pressure on the skin. That would have been difficult, since both their later husbands were affectionate individuals.

It’s hard, my husband does not always understand – it took three docs telling me that I had it before either of us believed it, but after 14 years, he’s more patient with me than he used to be – although I don’t think he every will really understand.
