Fibro & Stress

I’ve written about this before but it’s easily the thing that affects my fibromyalgia the worst. I know that I need to remain calm and peaceful and keep my life at a manageable level. This allows me to sleep, feel a decrease in pain and generally be happier. It’s the most important thing I do for fibromyalgia.

I’m just wondering what tips other people have for times when you just can’t avoid the stress? Times when because of family or work you just have to be around a lot of stress? I’ve tried yoga and meditating but I can rarely find the time.

This is sooo hard! I’m still learning this balance as well. I definitely have found that as I’m working out regularly… it helps every aspect of what I deal with with Fibro: constant pain, fatigue, immune system down, stress, etc. Working out really has helped all of that… despite the initial pain and extra push I had to do to get through it, it’s been worth it. I have found I have to make that time for myself or I just get worse. I know that’s not the answer for everyone, but it’s working for me right now. I hope you are able to find a way soon to help release some stress. Maybe even just an occasional bubble bath? Just something a few minutes a day even where you can refocus and refuel. For me sometimes that’s just picking up my Bible or praying or journaling. Maybe for you it’s meditating a few minutes. Remember to take some deep breaths throughout the day. Think of someone you love and smile. Find jokes or something online that will make you laugh that only takes a minute or two.

Just some ideas… All my best to you! :)

I’ve been very successfully treating my stress with listening to an audio book “Mind Power Secrets” by Dane Spotts of Zygon Mind-Tek. Believe me when I say it’s made some very significant positive changes in my life. Things still bother me to some extent, but NOTHING like they did in the past. It’s also helped me with blocking out most negative thinking in my life. You’ll understand when you listen to it for yourself.
If you don’t want to put out the money for it, I would try your library to give it a try first. I started by listening the first few times while awake through the entire session, then I slowly migrated to listening to it on my MP3 player as I fell asleep.
Give it a try…it’s most definitely worked for me.

I know what you’re talking about. For me, I find that reading helps to calm me down, even if it’s for 15 minutes. But, for those unavoidable times of stress, I try to eat really well, cut down on the caffeine, cut out the sugar, and then boost my immune system with extra vitamin C and E and even B vitamins. This way, I know that if I crash, I have less chance of getting sick. It seems to really work for me and shortens my rebound time. If you come across something that works for you, I’d be interested.
