I Can’t Talk to My Computer

I bought Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 a few months ago. I tried to make it work for about three hours. It refused to recognize my voice or the headset it came with. The headset it came with was poor. I decided that I just speak too softly and went back to typing. A few days ago my hands started hurting whenever I typed. I read a forum post by a woman who said that she could really crank out articles with the software so I decided to give it a try again. I ordered a new headset and then plugged in my old one while waiting for the new one to get here.

For about a day I could see why people really like Dragon Naturally Speaking. It could hear me. Sure, it wasn’t that accurate but honestly I’m not the most accurate at typing either. I found that I could pretty much crank out an article three times as fast but the editing took me a lot longer. We had a good thing going me and Dragon. Then today, in the exact same conditions it decided it couldn’t hear me or recognize my microphone. If only shouting were a form of quick weight loss.

So basically I spent all the time I saved yesterday trying to get it to work again to no avail. It’s frustrating because I really need this to work for my health and productivity. It was a huge relief not having to type the other day. Plus, I could set the computer further away from me so my legs didn’t end up hurting from the weight of my laptop. Hopefully, the new headset will improve things.
