Does Fibro Change Your Typing Speed?

This is just something that I’ve noticed in the past few days. Sure, the rest of my body is in pain and doesn’t feel good but most of the time I can still manage to work. Now, I seem to have a limit of just a few hours of typing and then my hands are just sore. They never get swollen but then I’ll have to take a few days off.

This really got me considering how fibromyalgia affects my job. I usually think of it as a blessing that I get to work from home and I have a job that I can manage. I’ve been trying to compensate by cutting down on my web surfing. When I do surf I try to avoid anything that involves making the claw shape required by holding down the shift key and the mouse pad such as copying and pasting. I also try to find one site with everything I need so I can move the computer away and just read as much as I want about diet pill comparisons or whatever I’m looking for. Of course, this isn’t a long term fix. When I take typing tests I’m usually at 65 wpm. However, I can’t maintain that speed for long so I probably end up at about 40-45 over the long haul. Does anyone else have trouble typing with fibromyalgia?

Have you tried taking a break to do stretches several times while you’re web surfing or typing? I don’t mean hamstring or lower back (although they can really help everything.) What I mean is stretching the forearms- wrist to elbow. Backwards, forwards. Draw little circle in the air. Conduct a symphony! Whatever ever little distractions you can find to manipulate your tissues, muscles and joints will help to keep them from tightening up, reducing your oxygen saturation and creating lactic acid deposits. Shoulder shrugs… try everything. And when you’re finished with to your stretching session and/or your work session, do a gratitude dance. See http://healthmattershow.com/the-gratitude-dance-video/

I posted that cute video some time ago and it would make me happy if more of us could move and celebrate the life and health that we have.

I wish you success and relief. Here’s hoping your typing goes well and your symptoms go away :-))

Well you could have a point with fibro, adjusting your typing speed. Like Cindy said, try to flex your muscles some more, it could help you. Further than that, how long are sitting working on the computer? That could be a point to.

I hope your symptoms go away and that you feel better soon.
