Going to College with Fibromyalgia
Sometimes I can’t believe that I made it through college with fibromyalgia. The last two years I had to do online because I was too sick to go through college. Since then distance learning has advanced even more. I think it’s vital to find a program where you can work at your own pace and within the parameters that the disease demands.
I know a lot about the different online schools and was recently reading about Western Governors University at http://wgu.edu. They have a few degrees that I haven’t seen at other online schools. It’s also a non-profit school so you’ll end up paying about half of what you would at other online schools. They offer everything from a rn to bsn online. I also really love the fact that every student has a mentor for support. I really could’ve used that in my eduacation.
I think one of the most important things when choosing an Online University is to look at their accreditation. This ensures that you are actually paying for a degree that will be useful in the real world. WGU has everything from a NCATE accreditation at their teachers college to a CCNE accreditation for their nursing degrees.
Even if you are sick you can still find ways to continue your education. You can achieve your dreams, you may just have to do it in a different way.

Hi Sarakastic!
My name is Kris and I stumbled upon your blog. It’s so insightful to read a blog that talks about an illness that affects more and more people each and every year. It’s very inspiring as well- congrats to you for making it through college. I know it must have been difficult. I decided to get my BSN Degree online because I was so busy being a single mom and working full time. Online programs really are a life saver. Continue to press on with Fibromyalgia and never let it get in the way of your dreams!
