Everyone Else Should Follow Suit

The freelance site Demand Studios recently announced that it would be offering a health plan. The exact details of the plan haven’t been released yet but should come out sometime next week.

I imagine since the site is geared toward independent contractors and freelancers that there will be stipulations. They already mandate that you’ll have to have worked a certain amount in the last three months. I’m curious to see if you’ll have to keep up a steady stream of work in the future just to keep the health plan. The site has assured the workers that it’s actual health insurance, no just a discount program. I’m sure that there will be a lot of wrinkles to iron out, but it’s a step in the right direction.

A lot of people can make more money freelancing than they can at an office job, but they can never take the leap because of the resulting loss of benefits. Now if they’d just offer a retirement program. I use wrinkle cream but I’m still getting older and need to seriously start considering such things. I doubt many companies will follow suit, but I really wish they would. They’d build a lot of loyalty if they started offering benefits. (Hey a girl can hope.)

I think you cannot get benefits by freelancing. You will be a private contractor and will be paying you by how much you’ve done.
