Does fibro make you cranky?
It’s hard to tell if fibromyalgia makes me irritable or if it’s just naturally my sarcastic personality. I wouldn’t say that crankyness is a symptom of fibromyalgia, but it seems to be an effect of it. I don’t usually have a temper, but a lot of times I just don’t have the energy to talk in complete sentences. I don’t have the energy to explain my situation to people. I don’t have the energy to argue my point of view, so I just sigh.
I constantly make the goal to be more patient, but it’s just difficult when I’m so tired. Everything seems loud all of the time & so I am short with people. Their voices are too loud, their chewing is too loud, I just want to get out of the room. I take it personally, when really it’s my problem. I know that it’s caused by just sheer exhaustion. There are parts of fibro that are difficult to change, like the pain. The weight gain can probably be fought to some extent with diet products so some symptoms can change. I hope being cranky is one of those symptoms/effects that can be fixed.

It is proven, anyone in pain can be irritable. Sometimes, even if the pain has gone away, you still become cranky because you know anytime it can strike back. I agree with you that being in pain can be stressful. Times like this sensation gets heightened. That is why you become sensitive to almost everything.
I believe the best thing you can do is to control your crankiness. But no one can blame you for only you knows how painful fibro is. You are not even at fault. However, you can always manipulate your environment. Make your room conducive for resting, request for solitude among the members of the household or try all sorts of pain management (deep breathing, imagery, pain killers).
