Vactioning with fibromyalgia

I rarely vacation because of fibromyalgia. Whether I travel by car or plane I just seem to get unbelievably sick. Then I have to adjust to a hotel bed & all the walking that goes along with sight seeing. By the time I get home I need a vacation from my vacation. However, I work hard & I think it’s important to have time to relax & get away from my job. It’s not just a health thing. With the cost of gas so high a lot of people are just canceling their trips. Here are a few ideas that I’ve come up with on how to squeak out some vacation time:

  • Spend the money you would’ve spent on a vacation making your own backyard resort. Hang a hammock. You can even buy fire pits. This will be a retreat that you can enjoy long after a vacation would’ve faded from memory.
  • Spend time in your hometown as a tourist. Explore the places that you’ve always wanted to go to but have never had the time for.
  • Go to a concert. I always know about the big concerts that come to town but I was surprised when I looked up all of the acts that were coming to my state. A lot of my favorite smaller bands also made stops close by & the tickets were pretty cheap.

I know it’s tempting to just work through holidays, but it takes a toll in the end. Do you have any ideas on how to find vacation time with a busy work at home schedule?

A month after using Mederma

It’s been a little over a month since I started using Mederma to try & reduce the appearance of scars that I had from a gallbladder surgery over ten years ago. I tried everything to make the scars disappear but I’d stayed away from Mederma just because it seemed really expensive. So I decided that I would follow the directions & see where I was after a month.

I applied Mederma regularly three times a day. I noticed a huge improvement on newer scars, they really faded. I haven’t noticed much improvement on the older scars but the directions say that it could several months for older scars. I still haven’t used all of the Mederma, it lasted longer then I expected it to. So all in all, it wasn’t a miracle but it did help. I’ll keep using it for at least a few more months. Has anyone else tried Mederma?

Whats the secret ingredient in Mederma?

Several people have told me that Mederma really works, even a pharmacist. I was skeptical because some of my scars are from over a decade ago & Mederma is pretty expensive. So I was looking through the ingredients & was surprised to see that aloe & water made the list. I’ve tried aloe before & it didn’t help with the appearance of my scars. I was banking on mederma having something special like a turbocharger for scars.

I guess the secret ingredient is derived from an onion bulb. Luckily, the cream doesn’t smell like onions. Onions have magical scar healing powers, who knew?
