Keeping your hobbies

I rarely have energy for any hobbies. Most of my strength goes into not falling over. It is a full time job with fibromyalgia. In a way I really miss being creative. It made me happy to be able to paint even if I wasn’t good at it. However, for the last few years, I haven’t been strong enough to gather up my art supplies let alone sit in a chair for a few hours & concentrate on a painting. I just assumed it was another causality of fibromyalgia. I tried to get into graphic art to make up for it, & it was still an outlet for my creativity. It just wasn’t the same. Here are a few ways that I’ve tried to make my life more conducive to having hobbies:

  • I take advantage of the times I feel well to prepare. I put my art supplies all in one place so I won’t have to hunt for them when I actually want to paint.
  • If I need something at the store, I go & pick it up so I won’t realize I’m missing it when I actually feel like painting.
  • It may not be proper painting technique, but I realize that I will paint a lot more if I sit in a comfortable chair.
  • I just bought an easel at a thrift store so I don’t have to hunch over a desk.

There are ways to have hobbies with fibromyalgia. I won’t be painting every day like I used to, but I will still paint.

  1. Being organized will definitely help with crafts. I usually get settled down to draw and then realize i’m missing something. I spend so much time looking for it that I don’t even want to draw anymore. I’ll have to try putting it all where I need it.

  2. Living with chronic pain does terrible things to your life.
