Am I a writer? Fibromyalgia kills creativity
Since I’ve started writing a book I’ve noticed something. It’s really hard to be creative when I’m in pain. In fact, it’s almost impossible. My inclination is to write a set amount of pages everyday so I can finish the novel in 30 days or at least finish the first chapter.
However, I notice that after I push myself for awhile, the character I’m writing gets cranky. If I ignore the pain that comes from just sitting in a chair, it comes out in my writing. The story becomes about as exciting as a CAT5e cable, or the tone is just really whiny. I don’t want to write a book like that, so I’m going to have to make notes when the fibromyalgia pain takes over & starts effecting my creativity. Has anyone else noticed this?

That is interesting that your mood and how you feel affects your character. I know how that goes! I think something that would help you is to get one of those voice recognition systems that you talk into and it types what you say. Good luck with your story, let me know if you post any of it.

I think what you are talking about clearly shows the mind and body connection and how it plays out sometimes. It sounds like when you feel good, you have great creativity, and when you feel bad, it’s a struggle. Have you found something that helps with the pain?

I hear you. I write poetry, and the pain really stifles my creativity.

That’s tough. I can see how that would make you frustrated and then doubly frustrated when you can’t reach your goals. Maybe, instead of a set daily goal, you should consider setting certain “pain free” time goals.
