Vacation with Fibromyalgia

Actually, I wish I could get a vacation from fibromyalgia. Instead, I’ll just write about vacationing with fibromyalgia. Usually, the travel to wherever I’m going has worn me out so much that I don’t enjoy a vacation at all. It’s hard for other people to understand how sitting in a car can cause pain for days, but it does. Here are a few tips that I’ve picked up to make vacationing easier for fibromites:

Arrive a day early. This gives you time to settle in & rest & adjust to your new environment.

Don’t try to do too much. It might work for a day or so, but of course this will lead to a flare & mess up the rest of your vacation.

Try to stick to your diet & exercise regimen.

Have fun.

Take things from home that will make you more comfortable. This doesn’t have to be teak furniture, but could be sheets, pillows, or a mattress pad. anything to help you sleep better.

Make sure that the people you are traveling with understand that you may need to rest, or sit out on some activities.

If at all possible make sure you have a day or two to relax when you get home. I found that I need a vacation from my vacation. Even with the best laid plans, vacation can be a lot of work & that can lead to more pain & fatigue.

No, I don’t have any tips on how to camp with fibromyalgia. I still haven’t found a way to make that work. Remember, vacations are supposed to be fun.
