Memory Foam & Fibromyalgia

I’ve tried everything to get a better night’s sleep, which isn’t easy with fibromyalgia. I’ve tried the expensive beds, the ones with the numbers, only to find out that I don’t have a sleep number. I’ve tried pillow tops & adding an extra foam pad to the mattress. I’ve tried sleeping on top of my duvet to see if it would act like a feather bed. No matter what, it just feels like I’m sleeping on golf balls.

Lately, it’s gotten worse. I don’t know if the fibromyalgia has gotten worse, or if it’s the fact that I’m not sleeping well & so it’s just a vicious cycle where it just gets worse everyday out of sheer exhaustion. Yesterday, I finally bought a memory foam pad. I’ve had a few memory foam pillows & overall I wasn’t impressed with them because they aren’t soft enough. However, I thought I should at least try this, & it was a lot less expensive then buying a new mattress. I was expecting it to be like the regular foam pad I use on my bed, but this morning I woke up with a lot less back pain. Anyone else have experience with memory foam & fibromyalgia?

Yes! I recently purchased a bed with a tempurpedic foam top layer from Serta. I did not like the mattresses made entirely with memory foam. They are hard for me to move around in, although presumably you won’t need to move as much since they’re supposed to be very comfortable for fibromyalgia. I tested it for awhile but did not like how it felt I have been told they can also be very hot, which would be a problem for me because of my hot flashes and occasional night sweats. Still, I liked the tempurpedic foam enough to buy a mattress with a layer of it on top. I bought the “soft” bed. The base is the same in terms of support. There is just thicker cushioning on top. I also bought a tempurpedic foam body pillow (regular price is $200 but it was on sale). I use it as my regular pillow since it is just the right depth for me to lay on my side without straining my neck. I blogged about the bed, if you’re interested

We have an original Tempurpedic mattress, but it wasn’t soft enough. So we bought a soft memory foam topper and now it’s just right. I do sleep better now.
(I have hormone testing done two or three times a year, and I take natural compounded hormones (progesterone) from the pharmacy. That helps my fibromyalgia so much. Have you had your hormones tested to find levels and the ratio between progesterone and estrogen?)
