We really need some sort of signal
When I’m shopping or hanging out, whoever I’m with is usually surprised that the shopping or hanging out was making me sick. They usually say, why didn’t you tell me? Well, I didn’t say anything because it seemed weird to say to the customer service representative “Your sales pitch is literally making me ill if you wish to continue this speech you really should have a comfortable chair that I can sit on”.
So I’ve been raking my brain trying to come up with a good “I need to leave now” signal. Everything neither seems too subtle, too weird, or too rude. Anyone have a good “I need to get out of here” signal?

Pretend that you just received a call on your cellphone. Then walk on right away. They’ll understand.

Definitely something that we IBS sufferers need as well!! I guess it depends who I’m with – if it’s someone who knows exactly what IBS means then I’ll just say “Gotta leave RIGHT now” and they’ll know what that means…otherwise I think the cellphone thing is a good idea, pretend it was on silent or whatever.

There are many chronic illnesses in which it deems a person to immediately leave the scene. I had severe IBS symptoms and often times I find the physical signal of your hand placed on your stomach, with a facial expression that shows much discomfort, is enough to deem a person understands that you need to leave asap.
There is no need to feel odd, but instead try to feel that it is okay as everyone has their own problems, whether it be health, finances, etc.
