Being nice pays

I’ve struggled with the idea that: “Nice guys finish last” or “Nice girls don’t get the corner office”. Trust me, I can be sarcastic & even petty. I am Sarakastic after all. However, I don’t want to be that way. I want my business to work, but not at the expense of losing who I am because I think that Sarakastic is wicked awesome. She’s also really humble.

I’m reading a book called “The Power of Nice”, I’ll post a more in depth review when I finish it. Let’s face it, a lot of the people who read blogs are also bloggers & they are also monetizing their blogs. In a way, that makes us all competitors. At times, things can get really ugly. I’ve been pretty lucky in my experiences blogging. However, I have occasionally gotten some very nasty comments attacking everything from what I do, to my character.

When I first heard about the Dofollow movement, I was a little concerned about what would happen to my PR. However, I decided to give it a shot & see what happened. I like the people that comment on this site & think they should be rewarded with a link back. I just realized today that ever since I started this, I haven’t received one nasty comment. I know, now I will be inundated with a flood of “You’re stupid & you type fat too” comments, but it was just an observation.

Sidenote: When I was looking for a picture to accompany this post, I searched for “Nice”. This was the first picture that came up: jello. I don’t know what it has to do with being nice, I just thought it was funny.

A large number of blog readers are bloggers so I don’t see fellow bloggers as competitors I see them as possible audience members. Part of the fun of blogging is the interaction factor. I wanted to let you know about a new Twenty Something blog ring that was recently started. I have info and a link to it on my blog.

I also have no idea what jello has to do with nice but it made me laugh.

i think one of the best ways to help yourself is to help other people, i actually wrote an article about how helping other people will help you on my blog.

i am quite new to blogging only been doing it for about 1 month or so, but have recently learned about the nofollow command, to me it seems like something that harms the internet by helping large established sites and penalising newer sites trying to get a foothold.

would be interested to hear how using the follow command has effected your pagerank/traffic?

I truly believe in being nice and I want to treat others like they would treat me. I’m also a big believer in karma ;)

You know, I’ve totally done a 180 on this in recent years. I believe that nice guys always finish first. Maybe the only thing that this doesn’t apply to is when you were in College chasing girls, but other than that I think it is true. I know for myself, I will go out of my way to do business with nice people.

Having the Do Follow attribute on your blog I think is genius. It really helps to stimulate rhetoric on the blog and get conversation going. Isn’t that what it’s all about?

Nice post. By the way, “you’re fat.” :) Just kidding of course.

It’s really good to be nice! It’s a very great feeling if you help someone without asking anything in return. Good/bad karma? yes, it does happen and I believe at it!
