Honesty is the best policy
They say that honesty is the best policy, but it’s something that I’ve questioned, especially in the business world. Sometimes, it seems like the cheaters are getting ahead.
Remember that episode of “Seinfeld” where a break up note sounds familiar? Then it turns out the girl just copied it from a movie, so Jerry calls her plagiarist & breaks up with her. It was such a big deal because the girlfriend was not only stealing someone else’s ideas, but also borrowing their emotions. My first experience with plagiarism was when I was in elementary school & my teacher explained that we shouldn’t copy things right out of the encyclopedia. I promised myself, that I would never do that, I had too many original thoughts to copy others.
I had no idea how many times plagiarism would come up in my life though. In college I would work on papers for hours. Then, some of my peers would just party & then copy their papers off the internet. It was intensely discouraging, because some of the papers weren’t caught, & probably received higher grades than mine. I seriously started to question whether honesty really did pay. Luckily, some of my professors used software to guard against this, which could get the plagiarists reprimanded, or kicked out of school. I was looking at iPlagiarismCheck.com - Click here to visit us today! The cool thing about this software, is that it’s inexpensive, & it allows you to check both internet material, & soft printed publications. You don’t even have to worry about downloads, or installations. You just have to let them do the work.
I again run up against plagiarism when I started blogging. It seemed that people were only too eager to steal my content. Again, people were trying to get by with the bare minimum, it’s about time they learn that it doesn’t work. Yes, it takes a lot more effort to write something original. It means fighting through writer’s block. It means having first drafts & second drafts, & even third drafts. In the end, there is a sense of pride that is worth it. Besides the fact that I think that plagiarists will continue to be caught, it just isn’t worth it. Honesty is the best policy.
