The work laugh

I’m always interested in the role that humor has in the workplace. I think that my personality is one of my best assets. However if I’m dealing with lots of different people it’s a given that about only 35% will really find me funny.  That leaves a lot of room open for people to be confused & offended.

Remember that episode of FRIENDS where Chandeler laughs differently at work? I find myself trying to taper my personality into something more suitable for work.  I guess humor can help you get ahead in business, when used correctly, but it’s definitely something that I need to work on. So I was interested to read this article about how humor can help you at work.  It really got me thinking what is & isn’t work appropriate.  I really don’t agree with several of the things that are mentioned in this article, while others tips are great advice, so I thought I would go over & try to figure out exactly what my work personality should be. I need to find a balance, because I’m definitely not boring, but I don’t want my humor to hurt me.

Not everybody appreciates a sense of humor tho’. Where I used to work, we were serious most times and only laughed when the boss cracked a joke LOL.

Thanks so much for finding me and my blog. BTW, how?

Anyways, you are *hysterical*! I totally have my own unique laugh…and well, after I was an early teen (oh dozens of years ago)…I finally saw a picture of me and my BIG mouth laughing in all my glory at my uncle’s wedding…since then, I at least cover my mouth when I start chucklin’ so hard…not, because I’m so embarrassed, but because it turns into a totally different topic in and of itself: “How in the world does your mouth open that wide!?”

Not, the most workplace conversation to open.

Needlessly, I laugh all the time, and eagerly tell my girls its best to laugh at yourself first, so everyone is laughing WITH you and never AT you!

    So, laugh on girl!

BTW, my brain disorder is Arnold Chiari Malformation Type1. Ever heard of it? The adult-onset spina bifida.

And, last…where is your RSS feed? I’ll definitely subscribe. Contact me anytime.
