Business myth #7
Another myth that I had to overcome to be a better blogger & grow my business was the idea that I am unique. (If you’ve ever met me, you probably know how unique I am). However, everyone is different in their own way. My brother always used to say "Normal is just a setting on the washer". I thought my personality would be enough to carry me through. People wouldn’t mind that I didn’t know how to do code, or didn’t feel like building links. They would fall down & worship me because I am Sara, & some of my blogs are orange. ORANGE. See? that’s pretty special. This was one of the hardest things for me to come to terms with. I realized that:
1. If everyone is writing about the same news story, it won’t be unique just because it’s on my blog. Yes, I do have unique views on things. I have to work hard to think these things through, & not just regurgitate the same information. I need to add something of value to everything I write.
2. I have to constantly work on the development of my site & my vision for it.
3. I have to work hard & learn new things & do the type of work like SEO & learning different kinds of code that I may not necessarily like. My personality isn’t enough to carry me.
4. I need to respect other people & that they are unique even if they aren’t unique in the same way I am :P I have to realize that no one is boring & everyone has something to give & teach. I had to become humble, well ok, it’s still me. I had to realize that I’m unique, just like everyone else.
