Blogger Beta Review

I’ve been spending scads of time with blogger beta the last few weeks, setting up many many many blogs. By many many many, I mean 8 blogs. There’s some things I like about blogger beta much more than regular blogger. There’s some things I like even more than blogging with wordpress.

Blogger Beta Pro’s

1. There’s a new option to post labels that is similar to making categories. This is great to keep the posts organized.

2. The dashboard. I can log in & see all of my blogs & where there are comments to be moderated.

3. The atom feed seems to work well. I don’t remember if the original blogger came with a feed, if it did I never could find mine.

4. The easy customization is great. You can change fonts, colors, & add in links.

5. You can easily add new page elements, such as a link list, or adsense.

Blogger Beta Con’s

1. All the bugs. There’s so many things that need to be worked out. I really want the ability to set the post time to work. I usually post a whole bunch of posts all at once, & it’s very inconvenient for me to just save them as drafts.

2. There aren’t a lot of pre-made templates for blogger beta yet.

3. The customization is almost too easy. I feel like it will limit some bloggers so that they will never learn html.

4. I wish there was the ability have your own domain name for a price, but keep the hosting on blogger. That’s wishful thinking & probably won’t happen anywhere ever. The year long experiment will be if hosting on blogger hurts me in the long run. I know a lot of people are down on blogger & see it as amateur, but I also know of some people who make good money hosting blogs on blogger.

My overall assessment of blogger beta is that it is a lot better than it was, once they work out all the bugs, but it just isn’t there yet. It still isn’t on par with wordpress.
