Who says fibro can’t be fun?

Here’s another thing that always makes me laugh no matter how much pain I’m in. The Darwin Awards: People who die or are injured in incredibly ridiculous ways, thus removing themselves from the gene pool. It is something that shouldn’t be funny, but it just is. I’m sorry, but when you strap helium balloons to a lawn chair & you want to go 30 feet but end up going 16,000 feet, I will laugh at you. I can’t help it. If you don’t want me to laugh at you don’t try to fly in a lawn chair. It reminds me that yes I may be sick, but at least I’m not as stupid as that guy.

The Perfect Man

Non-stupid people are hard to find. Non-stupid people to date are even more difficult. A good doctor is almost impossible. I dream about a good doctor the way most people dream about Prince Charming. My ideal Doctor would:

1. Have a sense of humor. They would laugh when I say, “Is it the bird flu? I knew it!” I was once called a medical marvel by a doctor. This might have been really funny, only if he was actually joking.
2. Listens: Instead of counting how many minutes we have spent together, is willing to take all the time it needs to understand me.
3. Thinks about me when I’m not there. Still trying to figure it out.
4. Sees me as an actual human being & understands that the price or side effects, also effect ME, not just the disease.
5. Willing to answer questions, & work with me on integrating a holistic & medicinal approaches.
6. Admits when he doesn’t know what is going on, instead of just making something up.
7. Never EVER says on his way out the door, “it’s nothing, it could be a symptom of leukemia, but probably not.”
Now that I think about it, it isn’t much different than looking for the perfect man. Now if only there was a dating service for doctors.

They could be true…

There are some things that I know aren’t true, but I hold onto them anyways. We all have them. I’ve collected them from lots of people. I have several food myths that I know aren’t true, but I still pretend they are such as:

Chocolate: it has over 800 chemicals in it, some of them have to be good for you.

Corn Chips: Healthy (well as healthy as a vegetable can be once it is refined, bleached & then fried).

Cheese: a good source of protein. I’ve been told this by several people. Then one day I actually read the label before screaming “My eyes, My eyes. I did not just see that!”.

There is one food myth that I could do without: The crust of bread is where the vitamins are so you must eat it. It would be nice to not think that whenever I ate bread.  I let these ideas remain in my head because who wouldn’t want to think nachos with a side of brownies was good for you? What are some of your food myths?
