Simplify Gift Giving

When you try to explain to a kid that Santa didn’t come because he was in a flare, or that the Holiday had gotten too commercial so this year you are just going to remember the true meaning of Christmas, it does not go over well. Here’s some ways I try to manage my illness & my gift giving:

1. Set a budget, & when it’s gone no more presents. The last thing I need is credit card debt to worry about. This also means you have to prioritize who & what is the most important. A little planning will save you a lot of head/body ache later. (bodyache should be a word).
2. Shop online as much as possible. In Utah this means avoiding the icy roads, slippery aisles, freezing temperatures & disgruntled shoppers.
3. Plan ahead. Throughout the year when I see something & think, that would be perfect for so & so, I buy it & stash it.
4. Cut down on the list. We can’t do everything. Well actually, some of you can, I’ve seen you, but it’s ok if all the neighbors don’t get homemade cookies this year.
5. Gift cards are your friend. I would have rather had one of these than the tomahawk from a previous post. Write a heart felt card of why that person is important to you & it will mean more to them than any present.
