Day 2: Brainstorm
Starting a business can be extremely overwhelming, especially when just sitting in a chair constitutes a full day. So I have tried to break down the process into what needs to be done everyday, in a 2-3 hours of work, and in less than two weeks you will have a business. Yesterday, we remembered what brings us joy. Today we need to brainstorm ideas on how to turn this into a business.
1. Is your passion something that is synonymous with a physical product, like jewelry was with me? If so, do you have the product to sell, or do you want to advertise an affiliate that sells this product? If you want to advertise an affiliate you can start with a blog, if you have the product to sell, you can use eBay and/or own a website.
2. How much can you write about your idea? Blogs about a specific category or “niche” seem to do better than just blogs about your everyday life. Do you have enough material to write about this almost everyday?
3. Does anyone care? Is this useful information that other people want to read? A good way to tell this is to go to Overture and use the keyword selector tool. This tells you how many searches for this keyword have been done in the past month.
4. Surf. Look around the net and see what sites in your topic are already out there. How are you going to differentiate yourself from these sites? What is going to make people want to come back to your site? It can be something as simple as using humor in an unlikely topic, or providing useful information, or the best deals on products.
Good work today team. If you had any trouble with any of these steps, or think I left something out, please leave a comment.
