Fibromyalgia isn’t the end: Finding at home work

Monday, July 24th, 2006

I blame shoes. Most places require shoes “No shirt, no shoes, no service”. If I could just wear shoes for extended periods of time, I could conquer the world. When I was twelve years old, I woke up and just didn’t feel good. By 4 o’clock that afternoon I was in the ER really not feeling good. (Wow this is going to be a happy story). Four years, and dozen of misdiagnosis’ later I was told I had fibromyalgia. My mom and I went on a quest to find relief, one that we are still on. I have exercised a little, then a lot, and then not at all. I have been to the dr.’s and specialists, and tried all of their medications and suggestions. I’ve gone to therapy and support groups and read the books. I’ve changed my diet, first eating only carbs, and then not eating any carbs. I’ve drunken seaweed shakes and tried most vitamins, supplements, herbs. I’ve done meditation and yoga. Some things helped more than others but nothing was effective at managing my pain. Somehow, everything that claimed to cure even cancer, couldn’t put my fibromyalgia in remission. I’m not saying that these things don’t work for some people, they do. After having tried things that have helped so many people, and I have only had one remission in over a decade, I began to feel like a failure, why didn’t they help me? I still try a lot of new things, and try to combine the medical world and homeopathy, but I finally came to the realization that health may never happen for me. So then I decided I was just going to have to live with it, and be happy anyways.

There are so many wonderful places for support and medical information, and there will be some of that here. There was one piece of information that I couldn’t find. How do people make this work? What I really wanted was a job, to be able to work. The thing that has helped me most is being able to control my activity and stress level. This is a luxury that most don’t have. I wanted to be able to keep a somewhat relaxed lifestyle where I was in control, so I started a home business. I currently own and operate one website and three blogs in an attempt to be able to maintain my lifestyle and do something I love. This blog is to help other people with fibromyalgia realize their dreams and find work that they can do without sacrificing their health. I have been in business for about 10 months, I plan on giving my websites and blogs at least another year before I can really determine whether this is going to be a more permanent career path. I was going to start this site once I was uber successful, but if I’m not going to be successful, one of my other fibromites will be, and I want to share my knowledge with them. I want to be able to share the joy, frustrations, and ideas of other fibromites trying to find employment. If your a fibromite looking for work, leave a comment and introduce yourself and lets exchange ideas. No shoes required. If your a fibromite looking for work, leave a comment and introduce yourself.
